Things You Need to Know About SkillsFuture Credit

Are you over 25 years old and Singaporean? If so, you should have received a $ 500 credit to your SkillsFuture account by the end of January 2016, available to use to fund approved courses you would like to attend to develop new skills relevant to your professional development. What is SkillsFuture Credit?

SkillsFuture is a national movement to encourage individual ownership of skills development and lifelong learning, which is a Singaporean government funded course available to Singaporeans aged 25 and over that can be used for approved skills-related courses.

Who will receive SkillsFuture credit?

All Singaporeans over the age of 25 will receive a $ 500 opening credit starting in January 2016. Your credit will not expire and, according to the government, there will be periodic top-ups. Permanent residents and foreigners with work permits / passes will not receive it.

Do I have to request it?

During the month of January 2016, eligible Singaporeans will receive their SkillsFuture Credit account activation letters. They will then be able to access their account using their Singpass to use their credit for courses starting January 1, 2016. No application required. If you haven't received your activation letter, please wait.

How do I see my account?

You can log into your account at www.skillsfuture.sg/credit with your SingPass. Be wary of websites that attempt to impersonate the official SkillsFuture website with similar names and web addresses. On the official page, you can learn more about how to use your SkillsFuture Credits to pay for approved courses.

Can my employer ask me to use my SkillsFuture credit for company formation?

No. It is for your own use and is intended to enable you to take charge of your own lifelong learning. Employers cannot take advantage of their SkillsFuture Credit to save on their training costs.

What courses can I use it for?

It can be used for a variety of approximately 10,000 approved courses, in 57 functional areas covering all key industries. The list of approved courses includes:

-Courses subsidized or approved by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA)
-Courses offered by e2i from go here NTUC
-Selected courses offered by institutions funded by the Ministry of Education (MOE)
-Courses supported by public agencies
-SkillsFuture @ PA courses offered by the People’s Association (PA)
-Courses offered by Silver Infocomm Junctions participants from the Infocomm Development Authority and selected courses from the National Silver Academy.
